Around 1951 an experimental rifle appeared that was considered to be ahead of it’s time. This rifle presented two radical ideas involving its arrangement and caliber. This rifle, dubbed the E.M.2, introduced the concept of a "bullpup" design to a rifle where the feed and firing mechanisms were moved rearward behind the pistol grip. The caliber was smaller than the popular 7.62-millimeter bullet of that time. Novel and futuristic as these concepts were, the rifle was not accepted and therefore endured some 30 years of further research, refinement, and manufacture until it’s time had finally come in 1985. Still keeping within it’s original bullpup configuration with a slight change in caliber, the L-85A1rifle was finally standardized in Great Britain, the same country that conceptually designed it back in the 1950’s. This is a spring gun and the slide must be cocked for each shot. It requires no gas or batteries to operate. Due to this feature, the costs of spring guns are significantly lower, as well as maintenance. They are the most durable of all airsoft guns because they have less pieces that can break. Spring guns are very reliable, affordable and handsome guns. Originally designed by the British state-owned Enfield Small Arms Company, the L85 (originally designated SA-80 for Small Arms project, 1980) was the first “bullpup” type rifle fielded for military use. Upgraded by H&K during 2000, the gun was officially re-designated the L85A2 after the upgrade. Our replica of the L85 features a 30-round detachable magazine, mock optical sight, and green-and-black construction, just like the original. Muzzle velocity is ~365fps w/ .12 gram bb’s. Since this is a spring rifle, the bolt must be manually pulled back for every shot. Attention to where the bolt is cocked is very important. Cocking this model with your fingers closest to the stem of the cocking handle will result in longer more durable use of this model.
